Digital Heritage Interactive LLC is pleased to announce a new collaboration with scholars from New College of Florida, University of Central Florida, and University of South Carolina to virtually reconstruct two maroon settlements in Florida. This project, funded by the Florida Humanities Council, will produce two virtual world environments representing the site of Fort Gadsden (aka Prospect Bluff Fort or Negro Fort) and the recently rediscovered site of Angola.

These sites represent vital reminders of Florida’s unique African American heritage. The project will run through mid-2016, marking the 200th anniversary of violent destruction of the original Fort Gadsden. A series of public events will be scheduled for both the fort and Angola.
